Ava Hunt watched SMU lose to Penn State in the playoffs
Ava Hunt was in attendance as the Penn State Nittany Lions ruthlessly dispatched the SMU Mustangs, who were no match for the Nittany Lions, as the gap in quality was clear in the first-round matchup.
A stingy Penn State defense contained Kevin Jennings, and the Mustangs never got going versus the Nittany Lions. Jennings only mustered 195 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The game was over by the time he threw his second pick.
Meanwhile, Drew Allar easily picked his spots to guide team to the next round.
What next for the SMU Mustangs?
The SMU Mustangs are out of the college football playoffs, and it's time for the program to plan for the next season. They will need to deal with players entering the draft and the transfer portal, while some are not a part of the team's plans.
One player who won't be returning in 2025 is Preston Stone, who entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago and has committed to Northwestern. Stone leaves the Mustangs with a stat line of 3,197 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2023.
He guided the Mustangs to the ACC Championship, where they lost to the Clemson Tigers. Unfortunately, for Stone, he lasted just three games as the starter in 2024 before getting replaced by Jennings.
It will be interesting to see how the 12-2 Nittany Lions shuffle their quarterback room in the 2025 season and beyond.
