Texas Longhorns freshman running back Christian Clark chose to play for Steve Sarkisian's team amid a plethora of options like Alabama, Florida State, Oregon and others. Unfortunately, Clark's upcoming debut season suffered a massive blow.
Christan Clark's injury update
As per reports, the RB injured himself during a preseason practice on Monday. He suffered from a torn Achilles tendon and will miss out on the entirety of the Longhorns' debut SEC campaign as the injury will require surgery for rehabilitation.
247 Sports' CFB writer Chris Hummer tweeted:
"Texas true freshman RB Christian Clark sustained a torn Achilles tendon on Monday and will miss the season, per Texas athletics. It's the second season-ending injury for a Texas RB this fall along with CJ Baxter.
Clark was a four-star prospect of the 2024 recruiting class. Coming out of Mountain Point High School he decided to begin his collegiate journey under the guidance of Steve Sarkisian in Texas. As Hummer highlighted, he becomes the second Longhorns player to be sidelined for next season after CJ Baxter.
This leaves the Longhorns' RB room depleted with two talented prospects missing ahead of their first season in the SEC.
Steve Sarkisian finds himself in a dilemma following Christian Clark's injury
Clark was expected to take on the role of CJ Baxter's filler this year on the gridiron. However, following his unexpected season-ending injury, coach Steve Sarkisian is left with just a few options in the running back department.
Jaydon Blue, Quintrevion Wisner and freshman Jerrick Gibson are the three scholarship players available for next season. While speaking to reporters on Monday, Sarkisian opened up about how he is working on some changes in the position of certain players to try and help out the running back department:
"We're looking at some different options and we're looking at it creatively. Whether it's a couple on the offensive side of the ball, a player on the defensive side of the ball or two, for that matter," Sarkisian said.
"We're taking it day by day. Again, we've got plenty of time, we're just trying to get a sense and a feel of not only how will they play on offense at runner, but how does that impact us at other positions if we take a player," he added.
It will be interesting to see how the Longhorns work out their problem statement following Christian Clark's injury.
