AJ Hoffler’s move to Georgia Tech: What fans should know
A native of Atlanta, Hoffler was a highly-touted recruit from Woodward Academy in the 2023 class. He earned a four-star rating and ranked as the No. 222 prospect nationally, No. 25 edge rusher, and No. 22 player in Georgia, according to 247Sports.
During his sophomore season at Clemson, Hoffler played 14 games, recording 13 tackles, including six solo stops and 2 tackles-for-loss. His freshman campaign saw him notch three tackles and one pass defended in limited action.
Georgia Tech’s defensive line transformation
Hoffler joins a revamped defensive line unit at Georgia Tech, which has been active in the transfer portal. Other notable additions include:
Matthew Alexander, the 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive tackle played 39 games over three seasons for UCF. In 2024, he tallied 35 tackles and earned a 67.9 grade from Pro Football Focus, with an impressive 74.8 grade as a run defender.
Ronald Triplette (UTSA), the edge rusher brings versatility and depth to the position. Another edge rusher, Brayden Manley adds experience and options for the Yellow Jackets.
These transfers are crucial as Georgia Tech faces a significant turnover on the defensive line. Key players, including Romello Height (transferred to Texas Tech), Horace Lockett (UCF), and Uche Iloh (Georgia Southern), have moved on.
The Yellow Jackets are addressing a critical area of need with these additions. The defensive line will be a focal point for the team heading into the 2025 season as they aim to improve their performance in the ACC.
