Clemson's Dabo Swinney disqualified from voting due to big blunder at election polling station

A polling error prevented Dabo Swinney from casting his vote in the 2024 US presidential election. Election Day is today, and American voters are letting their voices be heard.

The Clemson Tigers coach tried to go to his local polling station this morning to vote but was told he wasn't allowed because of a misunderstanding.

He shared his experience during a press conference today ahead of Saturday's Clemson Tigers (6-2, 5-1 ACC) matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies (5-4, 3-2).

He explained that he couldn't vote due to a mix-up with his son William Swinney, who shares the same name. Dabo was told at the polling station that he had already voted, which he responded that he hadn't yet. The polling station staff discovered that his son had voted early but was mistaken for the coach.

"As it turns out, Will, my oldest, voted last week, and they somehow messed it up. Didn't verify his birthday or something and they counted me as the vote," he said.

Swinney added that he submitted a paper ballot and spoke with a director about the error. The director told him that a hearing would occur on Friday to determine whether his and his son's votes would count toward the election.

"So there's going to be some hearing on Friday, and you know, I had to do a paper ballot. I'm like, it was quite an experience this morning, but apparently, they are going to fix it on Friday, and me, and Will, our two votes will count on Friday," Swinney explained.

Swinney isn't sure if his vote will count due to the error. However, he shared that he wanted to do his best to be a good citizen and vote for the next US president.

College Football Week 11: Clemson vs. Virginia Tech

The Clemson Tigers hope to rebound from their 33-20 loss in Week 10 to the No. 25 Louisville Cardinals (6-3, 4-2) on Nov. 2. Before their defeat, the Tigers were on a six-game win streak and became eligible for a bowl game.

Virginia Tech is also coming off a 38-31 loss against the Syracuse Orange (6-2, 3-2) last Saturday. Both teams will want to get back on track to finish the regular season strong.
