Head coach Deion Sanders, son and safety Shilo Sanders, and the No. 18-ranked Colorado Buffaloes have a matchup against the Utah Utes on Saturday. The matchup is crucial as they will try to hold onto the number two slot in the Big 12 Conference.
Ahead of the game, coach Prime dropped a message to hype up his son, Shilo Sanders on Instagram, hyping him up for the big game. He wrote:
"Headache Gang @Shilo Sanders."
Many fans might not be familiar with what 'headache gang' means. It is a brand that has been developed by Shilo Sanders and traces back to a hard-hitting play from his time with South Carolina. The hit culminated in Sanders' interest in trademarking a term symbolizing his hard hits. The nickname represents his incredible physical prowess and intent to cause headaches to opponents.
Sanders has been involved in controversy because of his hard hits in the past. In 2023, he was ejected from a game against UCLA after a hard hit. However, after the game, Sanders was resolute in saying he would not change his aggressive playing style. He even issued a warning for opponents:
"I’m just onе of thosе playеrs that, I just try to havе my prеsеncе fеlt whеn I’m on that fiеld. I want to comе in and еvеrybody know whеrе ‘Hеadachе Gang’ is. So that’s how I play. I don’t really think I nееd to change."
How important is Shilo Sanders to the Colorado Buffaloes for the rest of the season?
Although players like quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter get all of the media attention in Colorado, Shilo Sanders is an incredibly valuable part of the team. This is evident in how well he has performed since returning from injury.
Sanders suffered a broken forearm in a 28-10 loss to Nebraska on September 7. He then missed three games recovering before returning in a 31-28 loss to the No. 20-ranked Kansas State Wildcats on October 12.
Since returning from injury, Sanders has had a huge impact in the backfield. In his first game back, he had his best game of the season, posting 10 tackles, including seven solo efforts. In six games this season, including one game in which he did not play much because of his injury, Sanders has 37 total tackles, including 28 solo efforts. He also had a fumble recovery on Saturday against Texas Tech.
