Coach Prime's Colorado Buffaloes are getting ready for their first bowl game since 2020 and they have a special guest coming to their game at San Antonio on Saturday at the Alamodome. On Thursday, Deion Sanders posted a picture on his Instagram story showing Peggy Coppom on a bus traveling to Texas.
The No. 23 Colorado Buffaloes will play the No. 17 BYU Cougars at the Alamodome on Saturday for the Alamo Bowl.
Coppom, a 100-year-old Colorado super fan, was promised by Deion Sanders that he would deliver a Buffaloes participation in the postseason in her lifetime —a promise he dully delivered on. Now, Sanders is also using Coppom's attendance at the game as a rallying cry for Colorado players to win this game. In the last practice at Boulder, Sanders mentioned her as one of the main reasons the Buffaloes have to fight.
Coppom has always been given VIP treatment by Coach Prime, with her attending the Heisman Trophy presentation at Boulder on Saturday alongside the coach and winner Travis Hunter.
Coach Prime wants Travis Hunter to play offense and defense in the NFL
While Sanders has his mind set on the upcoming bowl game against BYU, that doesn't mean he doesn't have other priorities to consider. Key among them is to ensure the future of Travis Hunter in the NFL. That's why he pleaded on the "The Rich Eisen Show" on Dec. 20 for NFL teams considering drafting him, to use him properly:
"He’s gonna do that, or they shouldn’t draft him. Don’t do that,"
"And I’m gonna make sure of that. Don’t draft him if you’re not gonna give him the opportunity to play on both sides of the ball... He don’t have to do what we did with him here and play every snap,"
While his dedication to his player's future is commendable, it's hard to see how he could make good on his promise should a team decide to use him only in a purely defensive or offensive role. Only time will tell what will happen to Coach Prime's protege in the NFL.
