Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders put up a heroic performance during the Buffaloes' narrow Week 7 31-28 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. He registered 388 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the game, hauling the Buffs back into the lead even without the services of injured two-way star Travis Hunter.
There was a contentious moment in the near-miraculous recovery when the Buffs quarterback and his charismatic father seemed to have an argument on the touchline, a moment that was seized upon by fans and analysts.
On Wednesday, Coach Prime's eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., aka "Bucky," addressed the issue of a rift between his father and youngest brother on X.
"The narratives our own people make up is funny as hell...Like the QB checks out of all run plays (or any run plays at all). Or that the man is sub-dissing the head coach in front of everybody.. sh*t be comical dawg," Deion Jr. wrote.
During his Kansas State postgame news conference, Shedeur was blunt in his assessment of the game.
“We made a statement that we lost,” Shedeur Sanders said. “That’s the statement-- that we lost. … A loss is a loss. A loss is a loss. You can’t get that back.”
Coach Prime blasted for not protecting Shedeur Sanders
The Colorado Buffaloes have struggled to protect Shedeur Sanders ever since he arrived in Boulder last season, leading to him being the most sacked quarterback in the FBS (53) last season.
While the Buffs' offensive line has improved this season, there are games when Sanders still gets little protection. Against the Kansas State Wildcats, he was sacked four times to bring the season total to 26.
During this week's episode of "Undisputed," Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless blasted Coach Prime for not fulfilling his preseason promise of recruiting an offensive line that would better protect his son.
“I thought he’d have better protection…his father wasn’t able to beef up the talent around him to quite the level I expected,” Bayless said.
"I'll say it again -- the best passer in college football is Shedeur Sanders, the toughest QB I've seen in college football is Shedeur Sanders, who still doesn't have great protection."
During an episode of this week's "DVNR Buffs," the maverick Colorado quarterback spoke about the issue of being sacked.
“It was a'ight,” Shedeur said. “There was definitely some sacks I shouldn’t have took, some reads that I gotta make. I’ll watch the film and see where I can improve because I don’t think anyone ever plays a perfect game and I didn’t play a perfect game."
Next up for Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes is a game against the Arizona Wildcats and a chance for the O-line to better protect their quarterback.
