We may have seen the last of Shedeur Sanders in college football if the No. 25 Colorado Buffaloes (9-3, 6-2, Big 12) don't make it to the Big 12 championship game. The Colorado quarterback didn't disappoint his fans in his potential last collegiate-level game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
He capped off an electrifying season with a standout performance in Colorado's landslide 52-0 victory over Oklahoma State. Deion Sanders' son threw for 438 yards and five touchdowns. Coach Prime's ex-wife — Pilar Sanders, took to Instagram and posted a video of her 22-year-old son celebrating after the game and captioned it:
"Perfect Timing."
Shedeur’s 2024 season has earned him the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, recognizing him as the top quarterback in college football. Previous winners include NFL legends like Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.
Sanders is the first quarterback in Colorado’s history to win the award. He beat competition from Oregon's Dillon Gabriel and Miami's Cam Ward for the honor. Shedeur's 2024 season records read 3,926 yards and 35 touchdowns. He has undoubtedly been the engine driving Colorado's success.
Shedeur Sanders rewrites Colorado history
Shedeur's leaving his legacy at Colorado seemed meant to be. The quarterback etched his name into buffs' history books when he broke the program's single-season passing yards record. In Saturday’s clash against Oklahoma State, Sanders threw a 10-yard pass to wide receiver LaJohntay Wester that officially surpassed the previous record set in 1996 by Koy Detmer.
After transferring from Jackson State alongside his father, Shedeur has been a key asset for Coach Prime, who has elevated the Colorado football program to new heights. Last season, he fell just short of the record with 3,230 yards. This year, he shattered the milestone.
Following the game, Shedeur tweeted about his future plans:
“2 signing off.”
In a heartfelt message to fans, he said:
"Last game at Folsom. It was legendary. Thank you, everybody, for coming out. Let's get it."
Emotions got the better of Coach Prime, who said:
“My last time at home with several of my kids and my seniors, man, it's tough. It's tough on a coach who loves his kids.”
Shedeur fans will have to see the quarterback throwing passes and making plays in the NFL next year.
