Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is preparing for his final collegiate campaign before going pro. Coach Prime's son followed him to Boulder last season after he took over to coach the Buffs. And despite a 4-8 debut season, Shedeur managed to put up an impressive performance, recording a total of 3,230 passing yards and 27 TD passes for just three interceptions.
During a recent episode of his podcast "2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders" alongside brothers Shilo and Deion Sanders Jr., the Colorado quarterback answered a question regarding his preparations for the upcoming Big 12 reunion campaign. Sanders said that he got better at his footwork and continues to improve his rhythm including pre-snap and post-snap performance:
"I would definitely say, one, really just working on footwork and everything at rhythm. Knowing the pre-snap, knowing actually the post-snap reality of what's gonna happen and just throughout the play and just go through progressions and work on footwork really."
When Shilo questioned his brother about his footwork last season, Shedeur replied by talking about how online critics and trolls don't know what it's like to be tackled by 200-300 lb individuals. He compared it to "PTSD", saying that it would affect a quarterback's footwork on the gridiron:
"...When you get sacked so many times, when you get sacked so many times bro, over and over and over, bro, your footwork gonna be different than someone that hasn't got sacked that many times," Shedeur said. "People could say, 'Oh his footwork was off he wasn't throwing on rhythm,' they not sitting there when that 275, 300 pound D-tackle running after you. You behind a computer typing. It's like PTSD bro."
Last season, Shedeur Sanders was the highest-sacked quarterback with a total of 52 sacks. Coach Prime's offensive line failed to protect him on the field, leading to them having trouble securing a bowl-eligible season. However, Deion Sanders has used this offseason to revamp the O-line and the coaching staff with the hopes of providing his quarterback better protection on the field.
UCF head coach Gus Malzahn has high praise for Shedeur Sanders
During this year's Big 12 Media Days, UCF Knights coach Gus Malzahn spoke positively about Shedeur Sanders. Malzahn called him one of the best quarterbacks currently in college football:
"His son [Shedeur], the quarterback, he's one of the best in the country if not the best. That's, you know, I saw that when I was at camp when he was going in 10th grade and got really good. He just happens to be Deion Sanders' son," Malzahn said.
As Shedeur prepares for his final campaign with the Colorado Buffaloes, it will be interesting to see if he and Coach Prime can lead the team to be bowl-eligible this upcoming season. Or will they exceed all expectations and be a contender in the new 12-team playoff format?
