Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which recognizes the best upperclassman quarterback in the country. The latest mock draft by ESPN has the quarterback being picked No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Giants but the speculation around the Las Vegas Raiders being his preferred destination persists.
Last week, a clip emerged of Deion Sanders asking Antonio Pierce to draft his sons during an event in Las Vegas during when he shared the stage with Raiders coach.
"You are truly the best," Sanders told Pierce. "Now I just need for you to do one thing. I need you to draft those Sanders boys."
On Monday, "Coach Prime" finally addressed the clip, revealing that it was taken during an event last year and is not as recent as is being speculated.
"To whom it may concern the video that’s being played of me & Coach Pierce is from the Super-Bowl Last year. God bless and have a phenomenal day. We are. #Dad/CoachPrime."
Shedeur Sanders set for Raiders despite father's denial
During Thursday's segment of the "Gojo & Golic" show, Yahoo Sports draft expert Jason Fitz was adamant Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis was intent on making Sanders his quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Fitz illustrated the long-term plan the franchise has for the Colorado quarterback.
"In a normal world, I think both of those quarterbacks ( Sanders and Cam Ward) would be mid-late first-round prospects," Fitz said. ... "Mark Davis is going to make Shedeur Sanders his quarterback, so that's their opportunity."
"That's what the Raiders do. ... When you're in the same division as Bo Nix and Sean Payton and then Harbaugh and Herbert and obviously Mahomes and Andy Reid, I do think your quarterback evaluation might need to change a little bit," Fitz said. "The one thing you need to focus on is who has that upside. You don't need a quarterback. You need somebody who will turn into a Mahomes beater. That's gonna take time, patience, development."
Shedeur Sanders fueled speculation around his interest in joining the Raiders when he captioned an Instagram story on Friday, posting "Legendary" with a picture of the Allegiant Stadium in the background.
