Two-way star Travis Hunter and the No. 23-ranked Colorado Buffaloes (6-2, 4-1 Big 12) have an open week this weekend. As a result, Hunter did not need to worry about preparing for a game and appeared on College GameDay before the game between the No. 3-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) and the No. 4-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (6-1, 3-1).
While on the show, Hunter talked about what has been like for him practicing under head coach Deion Sanders (often referred to as Coach Prime). Nick Saban asked him:
"How do you prepare every week to play both ways?"
Travis Hunter responded:
"I try to get at least 10 hours of film. Not including what we do at the school. So, you gotta watch a lot of film and practice. When you practice, it's gotta be at full speed, no one can stop you. I mean, Coach Prime try to stop me every day at practice, I won't let him.
Saban then asked him:
"You just split practice half the time on offense, half the time on defense?"
Travis Hunter responded:
"Whatever period we have because he does a great job of letting us go ones vs twos. So, if I'm going ones on offense, I'm planning on going twos on defense and I'm going 100%... I'm not gonna get tired so I just keep going and stay focused."
Saban then praised Hunter saying that is what great competitors do.
What is next for Travis Hunter and the Colorado Buffaloes?
Travis Hunter and the Colorado Buffaloes are on their second and final open week of the season. They are coming off a 34-23 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats which earned them their first ranking within the AP Top 25 Poll. Next Saturday, the Buffaloes travel to Texas to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-3, 3-2 Big 12).
They have four games left in the season, each of which is equally important. The Buffaloes are trying to catch BYU and Iowa State, the undefeated teams in the Big 12. Since Colorado does not play either of those teams, it needs them to lose at least one game each, while the Buffs need to win their final four games.
If that happens, Colorado might be able to win the Big 12 based on the tiebreakers. Since Colorado will not have played either BYU or Iowa State, the tiebreaker would be the best cumulative conference winning percentage of common conference opponents.
