Texas' Steve Sarkisian is getting ready to face Ohio State and the coach is well aware that the Buckeyes will give his Longhorns a hard time in the upcoming Cotton Bowl on January 10.
The Longhorns' coach seems preoccupied with the Buckeyes receiving corps led by Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith. He stated the following about the pair:
"They're both big, physical players. They have length. They have speed. They have playmaking ability on the ball. They have big catch radiuses. They've got the scheme to go with it, with Coach Kelly and Coach Day, and they've got a quarterback who delivers you the ball. You add all that up, these guys are impactful players that are real issues, and we're going to have a hard time guarding."
During Ohio State's convincing 41-21 victory over Oregon, Jeremiah Smith had 187 receiving yards, with two touchdowns in seven catches. He averaged 26.7 yards per catch. Emeka Egbuka had 72 yards, with one touchdown in five receptions.
Steve Sarkisian on Quinn Ewers's development since arriving in Texas after transfer from Ohio State
According to Steve Sarkisian, the key to Quinn Ewers's development was to treat him as a freshman when he came in from Ohio State:
“When he went to Ohio State early on, he should have still been a senior in high school. When we got him back, he was in our eyes a freshman at that time. So there’s been a lot of development. I would say physical development, but I would also say mental and emotional development.
"To watch him grow into the leader that he’s grown into for us, his ability to have the poise and composure he has not only on the field, but off the field and to look into the face of adversity, and come out on the other side of it time and time again whether it be injuries, whatever that looks like, to be at his best when his best was needed similar to the Peach Bowl there at the end of the game in overtime.”
The Texas quarterback has been praised for his performance during the Peach Bowl against Arizona State, a game which his team won 39-31. He has been especially for his ability to keep his team in the fight through the two overtime periods that had to be played.
The Cotton Bowl will be played on January 10th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and it will air on ESPN.
