"Coddle him too much": Georgia fans divided as Kirby Smart addresses Carson Beck's need for help

Quarterback Carson Beck and the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Florida Gators 34-20 last Saturday to move to 7-1. However, Beck did not have his best game of the season, throwing three interceptions to only two touchdowns. It was the second straight game where Beck had three interceptions.

After the game, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart gave a speech imploring the team to better support its quarterback.

"He didn't play his best game, but we can help him by playing better around him."

The speech was captured on video and released to the public. While it seems Smart was trying to support his quarterback after a poor game and stressed the importance of everyone playing better, his words appear to have divided Georgia fans.

Many took to Twitter to share their opinions.

"I feel he coddle him to much some time u got to get on his ass!!!," one fan wrote.

"He need to help us too by not turning the ball over 6 interceptions in 2 games is insane…," one fan commented.

"Kirby Smart (is the) best dang Coach in the game!! If Coach stands by Carson, I’ll fall in line!! Just hope he can grow, better decisions & gain confidence," one fan added.

Other fans expressed concern about Beck's confidence level after a few bad games.

"I feel like he wants it to bad he in his head. He well get better and when the time come he gone prove everybody wrong," one fan wrote.

"Would like to see Carson with his head up. Can't be a leader and sulk when you have a bad game. Look your coach and teammates in the eye," one fan commented.

"Makes me nervous about who is behind him cause they aren’t even getting time and Beck can’t possibly play worse. He looks like a freshman Matt Stafford out there," one fan added.

Beck will look to bounce back against Ole Miss

Beck has had a few bad performances in recent weeks, but Georgia has been able to overcome his inconsistencies to win games. However, the next few matchups will not be easy.

The Bulldogs play No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2) on Saturday before hosting No. 7 Tennesse (7-1) the following week. The outcomes of these games will heavily impact which teams are in the SEC title game and who makes the College Football Playoff.
