Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Cole Adams left the win against the South Florida Bulls on Saturday with an injury. This occurred on the first play of the fourth quarter as the Crimson Tide neared the goal line.
On a first-down conversion, Adams went down and did not get up for some time. He was later seen walking off the field, holding his wrist as he went into the medical tent. After leaving the tent, Adams went to the locker room with his right arm in a sling.
Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer spoke about Cole Adams' injury in his post-game press conference:
"He just had an arm injury. I would say we’ll have to see exactly where that’s at. Just the extent of that. I didn’t necessarily see, and I didn’t realize it was his arm until he got up. I thought it was something lower leg. But we’ll see where he’s at throughout the week.”
As of now, Adams' availability status is unknown, as is the true extent of his injury. He will be evaluated throughout to week to determine how serious the injury is and whether he will play next week when the Crimson Tide travel to the Midwest to face the Wisconsin Badgers.
Who could be a possible replacement for Cole Adams?
The injury to Cole Adams created another problem for Alabama. Besides being a wide receiver, he is also the team's punt returner, and so far this season, he has returned seven punts for 42 yards.
In the quarter Adams missed against the South Florida Bulls, Jaylen Mbakwe stepped in as the punt returner. He returned one punt for 28 yards, which is more than double the best return Adams has had this season.
The Badgers' defense will be tougher than the Bulls' or Western Kentucky Hilltoppers' defenses, so having a returner who can carry the ball long distances will be helpful for Alabama.
