Carson Beck was largely unimpressive in Georgia’s win against Texas on Saturday. The quarterback barely completed half his passes for 175 yards with no touchdown while throwing three interceptions. This has largely changed the opinions on his draft stock.
In his appearance on his podcast show on Monday, Colin Cowherd expressed his view about Carson Beck regarding the 2025 NFL Draft. While the quarterback was projected as a first-round pick during the offseason, the analyst believes that’s no longer the case.
“Carson Beck is no longer a first-round quarterback,” Cowherd said. “He's just not. You just can't draft him in the first round… He was 23 of 41, this is with Georgia's talent, no touchdown and three picks. [0:48]
“I wrote down 'top of the third round.' When I watched him, he felt like a third-round pick. Georgia was actually decent on third down, but they only had 14 first downs. Go to Austin and double the Longhorns.”
Carson Beck takes responsibility for his poor performance against Texas
There was a lot of criticism from fans and the media regarding Carson Beck's performance against the Texas on Saturday night. Following the game, the quarterback took responsibility for his poor outing and expressed his desire to improve in subsequent games.
“I was just off the entire game," Beck said via 247Sports. "I was just off. That's really difficult. Not to say that games like that are going to happen, but I can't control everything. I can control what I can control. I got to go back and watch a film. I got to get better.”
“I got to be better for this team. It was a great day for our defense to show up the way that they did considering the way that I played. The offense can be so much better. To come on the road and win and while not playing our best game is a huge testament to our team.”
Georgia coach Kirby Smart came to the defense of quarterback Carson Beck following the team's performance, citing that the many drops by the receivers played a significant role in Beck's struggles during the game. He emphasized that these missed opportunities had an impact on Beck's overall performance.
Beck started the 2024 season as arguably the best quarterback in college football, thanks in large part to his performance in 2023. However, a host of average performances this season has reduced confidence in him, resulting in a decline in his draft stock.
