College football analyst Andy Staples has shared his bold prediction for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on On3's YouTube livestream on Monday. The Cornhuskers are coming off a disappointing 5-7 season as the Cornhuskers lost four straight games to end the season.
Entering 2024, there is some hype behind Nebraska as they landed Dylan Raiola. Along with that, the Cornhuskers have a relatively easy schedule to begin the year and Staples believes the Cornhuskers will be 7-0 going into the Ohio State game.
“Nebraska will be 7-0 entering the Ohio State game. 7-0!” Staples said (per TheSpun).
“Look at that schedule: UTEP, Colorado, Northern Iowa, Illinois, at Purdue, Rutgers, at Indiana. I don’t discount Curt Cignetti making Indiana better. Rutgers is going to be the ultimate rock fight, Rutgers is going to have a really good defense, that game’s in Lincoln. Obviously, Colorado beat them last year.”
A 7-0 start is an extremely bold prediction, but Staples does make a good point about how easy the schedule is for Cornhuskers to begin the year.
Any Cornhusker fan would also jump at the chance of starting 7-0, as they would guarantee them a spot in a bowl game and could get them in the conversation for the college football playoff.
Nebraska's HC Matt Rhule excited for 2024
Matt Rhule is entering his second year as the head coach of Nebraska. He is coming into the 2024 season with high expectations for his team and believes they can compete for a playoff spot.
"I just expect us to make a massive jump from Year 1 to Year 2. And I expect our best jump to be from Year 2 to Year 3. I think you go from playing losing football to winning football, winning football to championship football... So I expect us to have a really good team this year," Rhule said to the Joel Klatt Show.
"I expect us to make some runs. I expect us to be a team people don't want to play," he continued. "I always want us to win a bowl game, I want us to be in the conference title race and I want us to fight to go play in the College Football Playoff and then win it."
Nebraska is +950 to make the playoffs, which implies a 9.5% chance of making the postseason, according to DraftKings.
The Cornhuskers open their season against UTEP at home on August 31. They have notable games against Ohio State, Colorado, USC, Wisconsin, and Iowa this season.
