The 2024 college football season is nearly upon us. All of the teams who are in contention to win the national championship begin their quest next weekend.

However, not everything will go as planned, and there will be some surprising upsets during the season. Here are three teams who could be upset in week one.

Three College Football teams that could suffer a suprise upset in Week One

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Fighting Irish begin their season on the road against the Texas A&M Aggies. Coming into the game, Notre Dame have the higher ranking (number 6 to the Aggies spot at 20), but this may mean nothing when the two teams meet at Kyle Field.

There are several questions about the offense for Notre Dame coming into this game. The normally strong offensive line has been depleted as tackle Charles Jagusah is out for the season with a torn pectoral. This leaves them without an experienced player in this position.

Additionally, there is uncertainty regarding quarterback Riley Leonard. He is coming off an injury, which meant that he missed much of training camp. He is also going to have to quickly adjust to playing for Notre Dame, after transferring from Duke, which will be difficult with the Aggies.

A few mistakes from the offense, and the Fighting Irish could lose the game.

Colorado Buffaloes

The Colorado Buffaloes are an enigma.

Colorado has a strong quarterback in Shedeur Sanders, and a coach who has demonstrated prior success. But, nothing seems to be going right for Deion Sanders' team and no one really knows how the team is going to fare this season.

If last season, and the large amount of offseason drama coming out of Boulder reaveal anything, it's that the Buffaloes may struggle in the Big 12.

The high amount of transfers, caused by many player exits, means that this team has been put together like patchwork during the offseason, something that may not end well.

The Buffaloes opening game is against the North Dakota State Bisons, a strong FBS program that plays like a Power Four program. If Colorado cannot resolve these issues before the game, expect a victory for North Dakota.

Syracuse Orange

The Orange are not predicted to set the college football world on fire, nor are they expected to make a run for the ACC conference championship this year. But they should be able to defeat the Ohio University Bobcats in week one.

However, the Bobcats have won the last two MAC Championships, and their defense has been very strong recently.

With a new coach and a new quarterback this season, Syracuse should see improvements in performance.

The new quarterback is former Ohio State Buckeye Kyle McCord who previously struggled in big games. While the game against the Bobcats is not highly anticpated, McCord could make some mistakes that the Bobcats can capitalise on and potentially win the game.
