The discourse surrounding the Colorado Buffaloes and their coach Deion Sanders going into the clash against the Colorado State Rams was decidedly downbeat after their limp 28-10 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Buffs, though, turned up the wick and won convincingly 28-9.
Before the game, Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and wide receiver Tory Horton had some choice words for the Buffaloes swearing revenge and trashing Colorado's huge media spotlight.
During the postgame news conference, Coach Prime revealed that he took the result of the game personally.
"Wonderful game. Personal game. Heartfelt game. Emotional game. They kinda make it like that," Sanders said.
"The disrespect was uncalled for during the week. We knew coming in to the game, it would be a bit personal. I just pray that our kids would never act in that matter, cause y'all would have a field day with it."
According to Sanders, a Colorado State player ran into the Colorado receivers coach Jason Phillips and even elbowed him.
Moreover, during the game, Nicolosi, who started the verbal war of words with the Buffs, gestured towards two-way star Travis Hunter insinuating that he was too small.
"How stupid is that? This is Travis Hunter. Like, who does that?" Deion Sanders said. "I wouldn't allow my kids to do that. But when you allow kids to sit in an interview and talk against us? Come on, dog."
Deion Sanders defends his team
There has been a lot of skepticism aimed at Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes after a sluggish win against the North Dakota Bison in their season opener and the defeat to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in week two.
During his Colorado State postgame news conference, Sanders sais that the negativity aimed toward his players was noted despite there being several teams that have lost games this season.
"We heard all the foolishness. Might as well abandon the season with one loss," Sanders said. "Do you know how many people have lost one game in college football?
"There's some really good teams that have lost one games. We'd like to think that we're one of them. Yes, we're developing some things. Yes, we're working on some things. But you see this arrow is headed in the right direction."
The much-maligned offensive line was positive against Colorado State opening gaps, only allowing one sack on quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was widely criticized for his comments after the Nebraska loss.
Next up for Deion Sanders and the Buffs is a clash with the Baylor Bears as they attempt to be bowl-eligible for the first time in eight years.
