The Colorado Buffaloes, under coach Deion Sanders, aka Coach Prime, lost narrowly 31-28 to the No. 18 Kansas State Wildcats in Week 7. The Buffs mounted an unlikely comeback and took the lead with 3:12 remaining before Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jayce Brown to win the game.

Things kept going wrong for the resilient Buffs, who lost two-way star Travis Hunter to injury midway through the game before losing wide receivers Jimmy Horn Jr. and Omarion Miller to injury as well. Down 24-21, freshman cornerback Colton Hood intercepted Johnson and almost returned it for a pick-six but stumbled just a few yards short of the end zone.

After the game, Colorado fans on X thought that they had understood the reason for all of their bad luck. For the game against Kansas State, Coach Prime had shaved his beard, which had been present throughout their impressive three-game winning streak but was snapped once the beard was gone.

Some fans further fed into the superstition angle behind the Buffs' loss.

"We told him not to cut it," one fan tweeted.
"I agree stop touching stuff lol," another fan tweeted.
"Y’all stop cuz you’re about to jinx this Saturday Arizona game," one fan tweeted.

Coach Prime rues missed opportunity

The Colorado Buffaloes' clash against the No. 18 Kansas State Wildcats was a crucial one for Coach Prime. A win would have elevated Colorado to the top tier of the Big 12 and improved the Buffaloes' chances of making the conference championship game.

Despite the mounting injury count, during his postgame news conference, Deion Sanders rued how his team had lost the game after taking the lead, rueing the missed opportunity.

“Sometimes when you lose in life, you get your butt kicked. You just got to take it. But sometimes you lose, you say, dang, we should have won that. We should have had that," Coach Prime said.
“And that was one of those types of games. That’s not taking anything away from our opponents, because they played their butts off, and they’re in the locker room right now celebrating having a good time, and they deserve it.
"But for us, we just felt like we let that one slip away and we got to do a better job of taking advantage of the opportunities that we had to win that game, because we had several,” the coach added.

Next up for Coach Prime and the Buffs is a crucial game against the Arizona Wildcats and a chance to reestablish themselves as a genuine contender in the Big 12 and move closer to bowl eligibility.
