Colorado coach Deion Sanders was dissatisfied with how his Buffaloes team, which was a 10 1/2-point favorite for the game against the North Dakota State Bison, won the game. The game ended 31-26 and give or take a few controversial officiating calls, there would have been an upset on opening night at Folsom Field.
Watching among the sellout crowd at Folsom Field was Colorado superfan, Miss Peggy Coppom, who is 99 years old. Miss Peggy has held Buffaloes season tickets since 1966, whose games she attended with her twin sister Betty Hoover, who passed on in 2020.
After the game, charismatic Buffs coach Deion Sanders thanked the crowd for coming, but he had a special shout out to Miss Peggy.
“Miss Peggy, I love you,” Sanders said. “One step closer to getting you to a bowl game.”
It has not been an easy summer for Miss Peggy, who broke her femur during a walk down her driveway and had to have surgery and physical therapy.
She was not going to miss the season-opening game, though, especially after Deion Sanders promised her that the Buffs would finally become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016.
During a recent interview, Coppom revealed the difficulty she had to go through to be able to attend games once again.
“It was difficult, and I won’t try to soften any of this. It was difficult,” Coppom said per KDVR.“I’m looking to have some really fun plays and be able to cheer and shake my pom-poms. And I want to see a win for Colorado at the end of the game.”
Miss Peggy and Deion Sanders share special relationship
Miss Peggy Coppom has taken to coach Deion Sanders in a special way. The duo have had several meetings, culminating in a unique NIL deal from the sunglasses company Blenders which is associated with the Colorado coach.
During an interview with USA TODAY, Miss Peggy revealed why she gets along with Sanders.
“We hit it off I guess as far as liking each other and being friends. And I consider him (Sanders) a good friend now," Miss Peggy said. “And he cares about his family. He takes care of his family, and I like the fact he’s not reluctant to express his faith in God, and all those things. You have a few things in common when you have friendships."
Deion Sanders has a tall order to get Miss Peggy to a bowl game as the Colorado Buffaloes' schedule gets harder, starting with a tricky trip to Lincoln to face off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
