Kaidon Salter announced his transfer from Liberty to Colorado via an Instagram post on Dec. 18. The quarterback is expected to compete against Julian Lewis for the starting role at the Buffs this year.
On Friday, Salter appeared on WFAA with his parents to discuss his move to Colorado. The signal-caller also expressed his feelings about Lewis, who committed to CU as one of the top-rated quarterbacks from the 2025 class.
"No promises, all competition and I'm willing to come in and compete," Salter said. "You know Juju (Lewis), he is a younger guy of course, so they wanted somebody in the room that can mentor him and help him come into college feel comfortable. They felt I was the guy that could do that. I also feel I'm the guy that can do that."
Salter went on to explain his relationship with Lewis in detail.
"I met Juju at the Elite 11, when I was an Elite 11 counsellor. So, I've met Juju before and just recently met him again when I went out there for the Bowl game. He's a very cool dude and he's a playmaker. One of the best QBs in his class.
"It’s all love over there and it’ll be a great competition between us."
Colorado needs a starting quarterback, especially since Sheduer Sanders is declaring for the 2025 NFL draft. Shedeur led the Buffs to a 9-4 record in his final season with the team. CU ended its season with a 36-14 defeat against No. 17 BYU in the Alamo Bowl.
However, Shedeur's successor has some big boots to fill. Shedeur finished the 2024 season with 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The quarterback also rushed for four touchdowns and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Now, it will be interesting to see who impresses Coach Prime in the offseason, to get the starting QB role at Colorado for 2025.
