Colorado wide receiver LaJohntay Wester has been one of the standouts for the Buffaloes alongside NFL-bound stars, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and the Heisman-winning Travis Hunter, as they narrowly missed out on the Big 12 championship game. He tallied 51 yards on four receptions during the Buffs' 36-14 blowout loss to the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl.
LaJohntay and his brother, Jaylen Wester, added to the sibling population in Boulder when they committed to the Buffaloes from the Florida Atlantic Owls in January. The Buffs have Shilo and Shedeur Sanders and Keaten and Destin Wade in their roster, making it the first time that an FBS side has featured three different sets of brothers.
On Saturday, LaJohntay, who has tallied 931 yards on 74 receptions resulting in 10 touchdowns this season, played the last game in college football with his brother Jaylen. The two were visibly emotional while wiping away tears at the end of the game when taking pictures.
During his weekly news conference before the game against the Cougars, LaJohntay Wester revealed the importance of the game to him personally and to the Buffs.
“This is my first real bowl game,” LaJohntay Wester said. “I had a bowl game in the Montgomery Bowl in 2020, COVID season. I’m just taking it all in. It’s hard to get here. This is our Super Bowl. We didn’t make it to the College Football Playoffs, so this is our playoff game. We’re locked in just like this is our Super Bowl. So we’re ready."
LaJohntay Wester was predicted to succeed in Boulder
During an interview with "Buffs Beat," Jaylen Wester was adamant that LaJohntay Wester would prove to be a huge success for the Colorado Buffaloes when he was signed by the Colorado Buffaloes.
"(LaJohntay) brings a dog mentality," Jaylen Wester said. "It's not about how big you are. It all comes down to what's inside. He's an electrifying kid with a good spirit, and that Florida boy swag. Being able to create openings for teammates around him and also showing leadership."
After an excellent performance, the wide receiver was rewarded with the coveted No. 1 jersey by Coach Prime after the Buffs beat the Cincinnati Bearcats 34-23 in Week 9 of college football action.
LaJohntay Wester provided the perfect foil for the NFL-bound Shedeur Sanders whenever the Heisman-winning Travis Hunter was double or even triple-marked and was a big part of the reason Coach Prime's team finished at the top of the Big 12 standings.
