During his time in the FBS, Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders has presided over some incredibly heated games with off-the-field grudges played out in the full glare of the national spotlight. One of the most contentious was the Buffs' testy clash against Rocky Mountain rivals, the Colorado State Rams.

Last year before the rivalry game, Rams coach Jay Norvell traded words with Coach Prime and both men went on to preside over an ill-tempered clash that was won by Colorado 43-35 after overtime.

The rematch of the game will fall on Week 3 this season, and the trash talking has begun. The first salvo was fired by Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. ESPN posted the comments to Instagram:

“They came out with that attitude and thought it was gonna be a cakewalk,” Fowler said. “They saw the reports, 27 and a half points, or whatever it was, and they got a rude, rude awakening real quick. And I think it goes to show that the hype, the media train, all that — it only gets you so far at the end of the day.
“At the end of the day, you have to line up 11 guys against our 11 guys, and we’ll find out who wants it more. We’ll see how far Instagram followers gets them.”

Deion Sanders warned of revenge plot by Rams

The Colorado State Rams, who just confirmed their move to the Pac-12, were not yet done needling the Buffaloes with Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi's declaration.

During the segment with the media, wide receiver Tory Horton's comments indicate that the Rams could have done more to win the game. Horton thinks that the teams are on equal ground, and the Rams have a serious chance of winning.

“We owe them (Buffs) one,” Horton said. “And that’s something that’s been sitting on everybody’s mind since we came back from break. We owe them one and we walked away from that game as we kind of left it all in the field. I don’t feel like we left it all on the field, because we should have murdered them guys and they came out with that attitude as they were on top of the world, and this ain’t no Cinderella story. We’re coming for revenge.”

As if the feud between Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell wasn't an already simmering story, the additional comments by Colorado State players has certainly thrown more fuel on the fire.
