Colorado superfan Peggy Coppom, known as Miss Peggy, has had an eventful few weeks since turning 100 on Nov. 19. She has been serenaded by the Folsom Field faithful, attended a news conference with Coach Deion Sanders, struck the Heisman pose with Travis Hunter's trophy and, most importantly, is set to travel to Texas to watch the Buffs play in a bowl game as promised by Coach Prime.
Ahead of the Buffs' clash against the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28, Miss Peggy traveled with several Colorado players. In a limousine, Coach Prime's son Shilo Sanders asked her a question, to which she had a hilarious reply.
The interaction was shared on Colorado's Instagram page:
"Alright, here's a great question that a lot of people wanna know the answer to. Are you a snowboarder or a skier?" Shilo said.
"Neither one," Miss Peggy said. "I'm a native Coloradoan and I've never been on a pair of snow skis. I water skied."
Miss Peggy gets shoutout from Coach Prime
Peggy Coppom has been attending Colorado Buffaloes games since the 1940s alongside her twin sister, Betty, who died in 2020 from pancreatic cancer. Ever since Deion Sanders took over as coach of the program, the Buffs superfan has taken center stage and forged a close relationship with the charismatic Colorado coach.
At the beginning of the season, Sanders promised her that Colorado would become bowl-eligible for the first time in eight years. The team surpassed all expectations, finishing the season 9-3 and tied for first place in the Big 12, barely missing out on the championship game.
During a pep rally ahead of the Alamo Bowl game against the BYU Cougars, Coach Prime gave Coppom a heartfelt shoutout, leading to a standing ovation from the Colorado fans present.
“The greatest Buff of all time,” Deion Sanders said. “Let’s give it up for Miss Peggy. We set out earlier in the season, and we had one goal in mind. We weren’t talking about championships. We weren’t talking about how many games we’re going to win. All we focused on was getting Miss Peggy to a bowl.”
Coach Prime flew Peggy on a private jet to Texas for the bowl game, where she has received first-class treatment while spending time with NFL-bound Shedeur and Shilo Sanders. Most importantly, the 100-year-old will be attending a Colorado bowl game, fulfilling a promise made by Deion Sanders when it seemed unlikely.
