No. 18 Kansas State held off a determined effort by Colorado to post a 31-28 win on Saturday. Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders passed for 388 yards, but K-State moved to 5-1 with the win, while Colorado fell to 4-2. This game leaves each of these teams with a single conference loss, meaning both are still competitive in the Big 12 race.

Colorado's big-play offense, with Shedeur Sanders passing to Travis Hunter, has been as advertised. Dual-threat QB Avery Johnson has had consistency issues but remains a dangerous threat for Big 12 defenses.

The Wildcats were a 3.5-point favorite, even playing on the road. With their win, they are likely to climb a few spots in the polls and could be honing in on a possible College Football Playoff berth.

Game Summary

Colorado cashed in its second possession, using a short field to score first on a 25-yard pass from Sanders to LaJohntay Wester. Kansas State answered by scoring on four of its next five possessions. The Jayhawks used a balanced attack to put up touchdown drives covering 75, 60, and 81 yards.

While Sanders hit Will Sheppard for a seven-yard score to draw within 21-14 in the third quarter, K-State answered with a 48-yard field goal to stretch the lead to 24-14.

But then Colorado struck, first with a long scoring drive early in the fourth quarter that ended with Isaiah Augustave scoring from 2 yards out to pull within 24-21. After an interception delivered a short field, Sanders found LaJohntay Wester from 11 yards out to take a 28-24 lead with just 3:12 in the game.

Kansas State went back to work, motoring 84 yards in three plays, with a 50-yard bomb from Johnson to Jayce Brown delivering the 31-28 edge with 2:14 to play.
