Deion Sanders' Colorado has been one of the most improved teams in college football this season. Coach Prime led the Buffs to a 9-3 record (7-2 Big 12) this season after failing to get Colorado to a bowl game last year. Moreover, CU's Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy under Sanders' guidance.
From an episode of Yahoo! Sports' YouTube channel on Monday, college football analyst Adam Breneman clipped up a video where he praised Sanders and Hunter and posted it on X.
"Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy is proof of Deion Sanders’ vision as a head coach. And Deion’s recruiting pitch to special players is — 'Come to Boulder and you’ll win a Heisman,'” Breneman tweeted.
In the video clip, Breneman explained how Sanders can use Hunter's triumph as a pitch for young recruits to join Colorado.
"Travis Hunter's Heisman win was really proof of Deion Sanders' vision," Breneman said. "I kept thinking about how Deion has been unconventional in how he's coaching and it's trickled down to his players in Travis Hunter. Really validation of Sanders' coaching philosophy. Deion has embraced Travis Hunter and how he can play both ways.
"Deion has really shown through this how some bold coaching decisions can redefine what success looks like in college football and it is working in Colorado."
Breneman added:
"It's trailblazing for future recruits too. I mean you look at what Travis Hunter has done from flipping from FSU as the No. 1 recruit in the country to go to Jackson State to play for Deion, to then go to Colorado."
Travis Hunter played one season at Jackson State under Sanders in the 2022 season. He then followed Coach Prime to Colorado after the Buffs hired him in December 2022.
Hunter won the Heisman courtesy of his fine displays in offense and defense for CU. He racked up 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on 92 catches as a receiver and tallied 31 tackles, 11 passes deflected, four interceptions and one forced fumble across 12 games as a defensive back.
Deion Sanders will aim to get Colorado its first bowl win in 20 years
Deion Sanders' Colorado will face the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28. This is the first bowl game that CU will play since the 2020 season.
Notably, Colorado's last bowl game victory came in 2004, in the Houston Bowl when the Buffs beat UTEP 33-28. Sanders will want to end CU's 20-year drought for a bowl win when his Buffs take on BYU later this month at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
