Deion Sanders has been known for installing a "tight ship" with how his teams are run. This may be why Sanders, with a net value of $45 million per Celebrity Net Worth, has been able to transform and massively improve the two programs he has coached.
An example of this strict and professional style was the build-up to the No. 25 Colorado Buffaloes's home game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, which will be played on Friday.
Defensive Back Ben Finneseth reportedly did a "YC" gang celebration during a training session. Coach Prime did not like it and proceeded to reprimand Finneseth.
The defensive back appeared on "Well Off Media" (Deion Sanders Jr.'s media company) to discuss this incident.
"Actually, Coach Prime got mad at me yesterday,” Finneseth said. "(While demonstrating the gesture) (He) said I can’t do it. But he said it’s a gang sign... What gang would I be in? Come on now.”
The YC hand sign has become a familiar sight and celebration for Ben Finneseth. The young defensive back has made 10 tackles this season, averaging around one per game.
However, despite his good play, his celebration does not reflect the image Deion Sanders wants to bring to the Buffaloes.
This Buffs team emphasizes values such as professionalism, discipline, and teamwork. Gang signs are generally not seen as professional and do not represent the discipline Coach Prime wants his team players to have.
Deion Sanders unhappy with Travis Hunter snub for award
Deion Sanders criticized the exclusion of Travis Hunter from the Jim Thorpe Award shortlist.
This is given to the best defensive back in the country, which Coach Prime won while playing college football with the Florida State Seminoles in 1988.
"If this ain't the most idiotic thing in college football, that he's (Travis Hunter) not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award," Sanders said.
However, Hunter has been nominated for many other awards this season, including the Fred Biletnikoff award for best receiver, and is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this year.
Travis Hunter is a strong two-position player, playing both wide receiver and defensive back. However, he has been getting a lot of attention and has made a larger impact as a Wide Receiver (where he has recorded over 1,000 yards and leads the team) than a defensive back.
