Popular comedian Shane Gillis made an appearance on "College GameDay" a couple of weeks ago. He was there before the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's playoff game with the Indiana Hoosiers, which the Fighting Irish easily won.

In this episode, Gillis commented on the outfit worn by former Alabama coach Nick Saban, in which Gillis referred to the legendary coach as "Alabama Jones." This was a reference to the hat Saban was wearing, which looked very similar to the one worn by Indiana Jones in the iconic film series.

After the encounter, Gillis thought that Saban was not happy with these comments. The comedian discussed his appearance on the ESPN show on the latest edition of his podcast.

"After I said that, we had to go into the stadium to sit at the desk. He wasn’t with us when I said it the first time. So then I got in there and right before we go on, he looks at me and says, ‘I heard what you said.’ And I was like, ‘holy s—!’ And then Herbstreit and McAfee were like, ‘He’s just breaking balls dude, he loves messing with guys, he’s literally just f—ing with you. I was like, ‘all right, I’ll f— with him back. I would have never done that if I thought he was serious,” Gillis said.
“I went up to him after and he was like, ‘You think the SEC dominated because we cheated? That’s bull—!’ He spazzed on me. After he yelled at me I had to help him down and he like looked around to see if anybody else could help him but I had to help him down. And yeah, I felt really bad about that," he added.

Saban was not happy about Gillis' comments. This reaction from Saban may be surprising to some. After joining "College GameDay," fans have seen a new side to Saban. This one is a lot more relaxed and quite funny, which is a contrast to what fans saw when the coach was at Alabama.

However, despite this, there are some things that one just does not say to someone like Saban, and Gillis may have crossed the line.

How did Nick Saban respond to the comments by Shane Gillis?

Nick Saban also gave his account of what happened on the show. He made an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," in which he said the following:

"Not at all. Not at all (on if he had spoken to Gillis). I understand he’s a comedian, obviously he was much more intimidated by J.J. Watt than he was by me. He was trying to be funny, which, I get it...My daughter loves him. So that kinda soothes the soul a little bit that someone in our family likes the guy."

Saban understands that Gillis was trying to be funny, but the jokes may have fallen flat. However, Saban also revealed that Kristen Saban, his daughter, is a fan of Gillis.
