Former Michigan Wolverines staff member Connor Stalions is now the acting head coach of Detroit Mumford. Stalions was initially hired to be the defensive coordinator of the high school team.

Stalions was a volunteer defensive coordinator but the school's head coach William McMichael suffered "a mild stroke." With McMichael recovering, Stalions is taking over his role for now.

"Connor is leading the team now," McMichael texted CBS Sports.

Stalions has been running practice at the high school. However, Detroit Mumford suffered a blowout 47-6 loss.

Despite the loss and being 4-24 since the beginning of the 2022 season, Stalions said the key is keeping the players locked in.

"It's a matter of keeping them bought in," Stalions told CBS Sports.

Detroit Mumford will return to the field on Friday against Hamdy.

Connor Stalions denies advance scouting at Michigan

Connor Stalions has been the talk of college football for allegedly stealing signs illegally.

While Stalions was on the Michigan Wolverines staff, he was accused of advance scouting as he went to other games and stole signs that way. However, in the Netflix documentary, Stalions denied ever doing it.

"I've never advanced scouted," he said in the film, via FOX Sports. "I obtain signals the same way every other team does. What sets me apart is the way in which I organize information and process it on game day."

After he was the subject of an NCAA investigation, Stalions resigned from his coaching role with the Wolverines. He also said Jim Harbaugh and other coaches didn't know about his sign-stealing.

"I love the University of Michigan and its football program," Stalions told The Athletic. "And I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I've had to work with the incredible student athletes, coach [Jim] Harbaugh and the other coaches that have been a part of the Michigan football family during my tenure. I do not want to be a distraction from what I hope to be a championship run for the team, and I will continue to cheer them on."

Michigan went on to win the national championship in 2023.
