Former Oregon Ducks cornerback Khamari Terrell, who was in the transfer portal, will now play for the Texas State Bobcats football team, according to On3’s Pete Nakos on Thursday.
Terrell’s departure marks a significant loss for Oregon coach Dan Lanning, who has seen 11 players leave the program during the current transfer cycle while bringing in eight new players.
During his freshman season in 2022, Terrell appeared in 10 of Oregon’s 13 games, primarily contributing on special teams. He recorded seven total tackles. In 2023, Terrell continued to make his mark on special teams and added six tackles to his tally.
According to 247Sports’ rankings, Terrell was the No. 29 cornerback nationally and the No. 36 overall player from Texas in his recruiting class. After committing to Oregon during his official visit in January 2022, he signed with the Ducks the following month.
The Ducks hold the No. 8-ranked transfer portal class for the 2025 season. They have made some notable additions, including running back Makhi Hughes from Tulane, safety Dillon Thieneman from Purdue, tight end Jamari Johnson from Louisville, offensive tackle Isaiah World from Nevada, defensive lineman Bear Alexander from USC and offensive tackle Alex Harvey from Texas State.
At the same time, the Ducks have faced significant losses in the transfer portal. Three former four-star prospects – wide receiver Ryan Pellum, cornerback Khamari Terrell, and quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele – have left the program.
Dan Lanning’s leadership at Oregon
Dan Lanning became the 35th head coach at Oregon in December 2021, succeeding Mario Cristobal.
Lanning made a strong impact, leading the Ducks to a 9-4 record, in his first year. The season was highlighted by ranked wins over BYU, UCLA, and Utah, and culminated in a Holiday Bowl victory over North Carolina.
In 2023, Lanning’s Ducks achieved a 12-2 record. They lost to Washington in the regular season and in the Pac-12 Championship Game, narrowly losing 34-31. The Ducks ended the season with a dominant 45-6 victory over Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl.
The 2024 season marked Oregon’s first year in the Big Ten, and the team made history by going 13-0 in the regular season. The Ducks secured a conference championship and showcased dominance in a league known for its toughness. Despite their success, the Ducks fell to the No. 8 Buckeyes 41-21 in the Rose Bowl during the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, finishing with a 13-1 record.
