Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Daniel Harris was arrested on Thursday for reckless driving and four other misdemeanor charges, including the use of safety belts, the operation of an unregistered vehicle, no proof of insurance and affixing materials that reduce the visibility of windows. The arrest comes just two days before the Bulldogs' game against the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 3.

According to Athens-Clarke County public records, Harris was booked at 10:40 p.m. ET on Thursday. He was released an hour later on bonds totaling $50.

Harris is not the first Bulldogs football player to be arrested for offenses related to reckless driving. He is the most recent of at least 25 arrests or citations for speeding, racing or reckless driving since early 2023.

On Jan. 15, 2023, a car crash killed Bulldogs offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy. Police reports indicate high speed and alcohol were factors in that crash.

In July, Georgia coach Kirby Smart talked about a new approach that hopes to avoid more incidents.

"I can't tell you the things that we've done that no one in the country has done," Smart said (h/t ESPN). "Let's start with defensive driving, requiring certain incoming guys to take that course which, as far as I know, nobody in the country has done.
"Discipline, we suspended a player [Marcus Rosemy] for speeding and driving last year, which is rare. Nobody's ever done that. That hasn't controlled it and prevented it, so why are we still talking about it? Because we've had guys make poor decisions."

Smart also later talked about fining players as a possible deterrent for dangerous driving. However, he did not indicate whether Georgia has handed out any fines yet.

Will Daniel Harris be available in Week 3?

Daniel Harris was released on bond on Thursday, so the police are not preventing him from playing against Kentucky this week. However, coach Kirby Smart has not yet indicated whether the team will suspend Harris. Based on his previous comments about reckless driving, it could be a possibility, but nothing has been announced.

If Georgia opts to suspend Harris, the Bulldogs will be without one of its most effective defensive backs. Harris has four tackles in the season's first two games, including three solo efforts. Fans will have to wait until Smart's next media availability to see if Daniel Harris will play this week.
