Davis Warren left the field during the third quarter of the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Eve and didn’t come back. The Michigan Wolverines quarterback gave an update on his condition on Saturday.
In his X account, Warren posted a picture with a brace on his right leg and gave an update on the extent of his injury.
“Celebrating a win and so proud of the way the boys finished this season! I unfortunately suffered a torn ACL in the bowl game. Thanks to the Michigan faithful for all the support this season. Can’t wait to battle to be back on the field with my guys in AA and go blue!” Warren posted.
The Los Angeles, California, native started and went 9-for-12 for 73 yards and a touchdown in the Wolverines' 19-13 victory over the No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide. He left the game after getting sacked near the sideline in the third quarter, leaving Alex Orji to finish the game.
Warren finished the season with 1,199 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. It was the first time he saw extended playing time, as he had been relegated to spot duty the previous two years with the program.
The 2024 season was a roller coaster for Davis Warren. He opened the season as the starter but was eventually benched. Orji and Jake Tuttle also spent time at quarterback before Warren regained his starting spot.
With Davis Warren under center, the defending national champion Wolverines closed the season with upset wins at then-No. 2 Ohio State (12-2) and over Alabama (9-4) in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
The Wolverines finished 8-5 after winning the national championship a year ago.
Will Davis Warren play for the Wolverines in 2025?
Warren will stay in Ann Arbor for 2025, but his role on the Michigan offense has yet to be defined. The senior quarterback has one more year of eligibility left, but he’s facing a long road back after the knee injury.
Besides the injury, Michigan will also have some new faces in the quarterback room. The Wolverines flipped 247 Sports No. 1 prospect Bryce Underwood from LSU. Underwood could see playing time as a freshman.
The school also added Mikey Keene through the transfer portal. Keene is coming off a 2,892-yard, 18-touchdown season at Fresno State. He spent the last two years with the Bulldogs after going to UCF for a couple of seasons.
On paper, Keene could take over as a bridge quarterback for one season before handing the job to Underwood.
