Bryce Underwood and Julian Lewis made waves in the college football world on Thursday with their commitment decisions. The two quarterbacks, ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the 2025 ESPN 300 recruiting rankings, flipped their commitments ahead of early signing day.
No. 1 prospect Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan, while No. 2 Lewis switched from USC to Deion Sanders' Colorado. Considering the quarterback situations at Ann Arbor and Boulder, both players are in contention to earn starting roles as true freshmen in 2025.
Julian Lewis announced his decision earlier Thursday during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” Bryce Underwood followed later in the day with an announcement on social media. Lewis had a two-word reaction to Underwood’s announcement on Instagram:
"It's on," Lewis wrote.
Josh Pate calls Bryce Underwood's commitment an earthquake
College football analyst Josh Pate described the commitment decision of Bryce Underwood as an “earthquake.” The decision is a significant blow for LSU after what has been a disappointing 2024 season. Underwood had been the headline recruit of the Tigers’ 2025 class for months.
"What an earthquake went off earlier today in the college football world of recruiting," Pate said on Josh Pate's College Football Show. "(LSU fans) are not happy about the way the season has gone, but everybody has put their stock into 'Yeah but.'"
“And the 'Yeah but' has been, 'Yeah, we're not going to the playoff this year, but, we've got Bryce Underwood coming in,' and now you don't. And it's going to be an uncomfortable December if they don't fill that void, and I don't know how they do it."
With a 6-4 record this season and dim playoff hopes, LSU faces growing uncertainty about its future. Underwood’s de-commitment adds another layer of doubt surrounding the program.
Julian Lewis excited to commit to Deion Sanders’ Colorado
After months of close interaction with Colorado, Julian Lewis officially committed to Colorado on Thursday. In an exclusive interview with ESPN, the quarterback expressed his excitement about his decision.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to get to work and compete," Lewis said. "Colorado wasn't recruiting me until I reclassed, so it really was perfect timing. This is only the beginning. I trust Coach Prime and (offensive coordinator Pat) Shurmur to help me become the player that I want to be."
Lewis made four visits to Boulder after initially committing to USC, fueling speculation of a potential flip among analysts. He is viewed as the heir apparent to Shedeur Sanders, who is expected to enter the NFL draft next season.
