Deion Sanders' Colorado can't seem to keep away from making headlines. It was reported Monday that the Buffaloes' assistant coach Trevor Reilly mysteriously resigned just a few days before the start of the 2024 college football season.

As per reports, Reilly was the only one of Sanders' coaching assistants at Colorado who was specifically designated as a special teams coach. He has already been removed from CU's online roster and the team currently does not have an assistant devoted entirely to the special teams.

Reports claim that Reilly resigned before Colorado's fall camp practice. The team didn't name a replacement for Reilly. However, Sanders reportedly hired former Michigan assistant George Helow last week as Colorado's newest senior defensive coach.

Reilly joined Colorado in 2023 and spent about 20 months in Boulder as the Buffaloes' special teams analyst. He previously worked two years at Jackson State as a graduate assistant under "Coach Prime."

Reilly played college football as a linebacker at Utah. The New York Jets selected him in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Reilly played two years with the Jets. He also had one-year stints each with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. The linebacker played in 37 games across his pro career.

In his first year as Colorado coach in 2023, Deion Sanders led the team to a 4-8 record. This season, "Coach Prime" will aim for an improvement.

Colorado had raced to a 3-0 start last season and became the talk of the town. However, the Buffaloes fizzled out after a bright start and managed just one win in their remaining nine regular-season games.

Sanders' Colorado will open its 2024 season by hosting North Dakota State on Aug. 29. Deion's son, Shedeur Sanders, will continue to start as the team's quarterback in the upcoming season.
