Travis Hunter has been having a great season on both sides of the ball with the Colorado Buffaloes. The two-way star is considered the favorite to win the 2024 Heisman Award by many despite the strong competition from Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

However, Travis Hunter was recently not named as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. This award is given annually to the best defensive back in college football. Hunter has been more than efficient as a cornerback, tallying a total of 30 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble. The three finalists this season for the Jim Thorpe Award are Jahdae Barron, Malaki Starks and Caleb Downs.

During the team's press conference on Tuesday, head coach Deion Sanders expressed his discontentment with Hunter's snub for the award. He called the situation "idiotic" and went as far as to offer the two-way star his own award that he won back in 1988.

"How is Travis Hunter snubbed by the Jim Thorpe Award?" Sanders questioned. "I'm gonna give him mine. I ain't using it. It's just sitting up there collecting dust.
"So Travis could have my Thorpe Award, because if this ain't the most idiotic thing in college football, that he's not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, and he is, I would say arguably, but I don't think it's really an argument about this young man being the best defensive back in college football," he added.

Fans took to X/Twitter to share their thoughts and perspectives on Sanders' rant:

Another fan had a blunt take that not everything is about the Buffs:

"As much as the media has enabled him to think it does, the world doesn't revolve around a 4th place big12 program."
"Uh.. cause his defensive stats and performances are subpar at best lmfao? Dude gets cooked on the regular. Maybe let him focus on one position and he won't average at both?" one fan said.
"Hunter is not the best player at his positions. Simple as that. He's good not great," another fan added.
"It's probably because he's much better WR than DB. I've watched insurance salesman cook him for 2 years now," a fan noted.
"Deion's a whiner. Like TH. They gotta yap all the time to try and sell. Jeanty sells himself by being 1 in all his stats. Besides this is Barrons year," one fan wrote.

CFB analyst shares thoughts on Travis Hunter's Jim Thorpe Award snub

"Coach Prime" is not the only one who is unhappy with Travis Hunter being left out as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. College football analyst Joel Klatt shared the same emotion as Sanders when talking about the two-way star's snub.

In a post on X, Klatt shared his thoughts on Hunter's name being left off as a finalist for the award. He then doubled down on his statement, calling him the best cornerback in the game.

"Not having Travis Hunter as a FINALIST for the Thorpe Award is crazy... It devalues the award... He is the best CB in CFB and his numbers reflect that all his opponents know that."

While Travis Hunter will not compete for the Jim Thorpe Award, he is a finalist for several others including the Paul Hornung Award, the Biletnikoff Award, the Maxwell Award, the Bedarnik Award, the Walter Camp Award and the coveted Heisman Trophy.
