Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes put up a three-game winning streak after their Week 5 victory against the UCF Knights on Saturday. Once again, two-way star Travis Hunter's abilities came to the fore on the gridiron. After transferring from Jackson State along with Coach Prime and his sons last season, Hunter has established himself as a top draft pick in the future.
On Sunday, Deion Sanders appeared on "The Nightcap Show" with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson. Johnson said Travis Hunter is suited better to be a wide receiver than a cornerback. He turned to Coach Prime for his opinion on the same.
However, Deion Sanders gave a rather diplomatic answer to Chad Johnson. He mentioned how Hunter had more opportunities to showcase his talent as a receiver than a cornerback. But this doesn't necessarily mean that he won't be good in the latter.
"I ain't telling ya nothing," Sanders said. "I'm treating you like a pro scout. You're gonna have to find out on your own. I know the answer ... This is what you really saying. You've seen him with more opportunities at receiver. That's why you feel that way." (25:35 onwards)
Last season, Hunter was awarded the Paul Hornung award for his versatility on the field despite the Buffs finishing with a 4-8 campaign. This season, he has once again been influential on both sides of the ball.
Travis Hunter has amassed 561 receiving yards and six touchdowns in five games. As a cornerback, he has a total of 16 tackles along with two interceptions and three passes defended.
Deion Sanders opens up about Hunter's Heisman pose after intercepting a pass against UCF
During Colorado's 48-21 victory over UCF, Hunter intercepted a pass from KJ Jefferson. The two-way star then went on to hit the Heisman pose.
During the post-game press conference, Deion Sanders talked about the incident and shared his perspective on Hunter being a potential Heisman contender this season.
"It's who he is man, it's who he is," Sanders said. "The guy works his butt off at practice. That's why nobody trips when he gets Sunday, Monday, Tuesday off. Nobody trips. Nobody say nothing."
"Because if they would, I would say, 'Well, if you do what he does, you get that off too.' It's just that simple. With 100-some snaps a game, and he never tires. He's just, he's that kind of kid, and I can't wait to see him continuously play."
Deion Sanders brought in new talents and coaches to the program during the offseason. If his team maintains consistency, they could qualify for the bowl games.
