The Colorado Buffaloes (4-1) are carrying a three-game winning streak into an open week. However, coach Deion Sanders has concerns with how members of the team have acted off the field. Coach Prime wants to ensure all of his players are conducting themselves in a respectful manner away from the games also.
Specifically, Deion Sanders had an issue with the excessive use of profanity by many members of the team. In a team meeting this week, Sanders talked about how important it is to communicate with each other respectfully. He said (via Well Off Media):
"Let's be cognizant of your language on the buses after games and around adults. You guys are letting the profanity loose like the coach is your homie. He's not your homie. That's your superior."
Sanders went on to encourage his players to build stronger connections with each other. He wants them to put their phones down and talk to each other more face-to-face.
Additionally, part of the speech had to do with having respect for elders. He wants the players to look at the coaching staff more like authority figures, and less like friends.
Deion Sanders is known for not using profanity himself, and setting a positive example for his team. He wants his players to treat football like any other business or job. He wants them to treat football like it is a career and not a game. This mindset has been with him since his playing career started in 1985.
Colorado and Deion Sanders play Kansas State after their open week
While Colorado has had success over the past three weeks, Deion Sanders likely understands that the Buffaloes have their biggest test of the season after the bye week. Sanders and his squad will host No. 20-ranked Kansas State (4-1) on Saturday, October 12, at 10:15 p.m. ET.
Colorado has had success against unranked opponents including Colorado State, Baylor and UCF the past few weeks, but they are not of the same caliber as Kansas State.
The Wildcats will also be rested heading into the match, but are only on a one-game win streak. Kansas State previously lost to No. 17-ranked BYU 38-9 in Week 4.
Kansas State has performed well offensively outside of its game against BYU. In all other games, the Wildcats have scored, at least, 31 points. They are coming off their best offensive performance of the season, a 42-20 win over Oklahoma State.
