Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders played his final collegiate game during the team's Alamo Bowl loss to the BYU Cougars. Coach Prime's sons, Shedeur and Shilo, want to make a name in the NFL like their father and declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
During his two-season stint with the Buffs, Shedeur Sanders became an important part of the roster and one of the best quarterbacks in the program's history. He tallied 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns passing this season and was honored with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. With Shedeur gone, Coach Prime will turn his expectations to five-star QB prospect Julian JuJu Lewis.
JuJu Lewis de-committed from the USC Trojans in November. He decided to begin his collegiate journey under the guidance of Deion Sanders in Boulder and announced his commitment to Colorado a few days later. On Monday, the five-star prospect posted a snippet of his Buffs jersey and locker beside Shedeur Sanders' on X.
"You left huge shoes to fill, but I promise to work to leave @CUBuffsFootball even better than I found it. Forever grateful," Lewis tweeted in the caption of the post.
JuJu Lewis then replied to a comment talking about the criticism he's facing after joining the Buffs. Coach Prime's eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., had a one-word motivation for JuJu Lewis and his upcoming collegiate journey in Boulder.
"100%", Deion Sanders Jr. tweeted.
Shedeur Sanders could not end his collegiate journey with a Bowl game victory to celebrate. Nevertheless, he has left a legacy with the Buffs that JuJu Lewis will now have to work on and help the Buffs to a better result next season.
Shedeur Sanders had classy response to why he decided to play the whole game during blowout loss to BYU
The BYU Cougars took advantage in the Alamo Bowl showdown right from the start of the first quarter. The first half saw them secure a 20–0 lead over the Buffs, leaving fans questioning whether Coach Prime's team can make a comeback.
Unfortunately, BYU kept their foot on the pedal on offense, ultimately securing a 36–14 win. After the game, Shedeur Sanders was questioned about why he decided to play throughout the entire game despite the domination from the opponent,
"Yeah, we started, so we had to finish it," he said. "That was simply it. No matter what it was- if it were the other way around and we were up-we were still going to play regardless."
Shedeur Sanders is projected to be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants, who needed a QB, lost their No.1 pick in the draft to the Patriots after their victory over the Colts and New England's loss to the Chargers. It will be interesting to see which team decides to draft the Colorado QB next year.
