Deion Sanders Jr. promoted and hyped up Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia on Tuesday. The breakout star stunned the college football world with his performance against the then-No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (4-1, 1-1, SEC).
Pavia, a fifth-year senior and New Mexico State transfer, led the Commodores to an electrifying 40-35 victory over the Crimson Tide on Saturday. This was Vanderbilt’s first win against an AP top-five team.
On the Dan Patrick Show on Monday, Pavia talked about the brands he would like to work with.
"Lululemon, Ferrari and Nike. Oh, and Dr Pepper, too," he said. "My initials are DP, so Dr Pepper would be amazing to work with."
Sanders, the eldest son of Colorado coach Deion Sanders, reshared a post by Pavia to boost his visibility and call for big NIL deals.
Sanders also highlighted Pavia’s journey, including his struggles to land an FBS offer out of high school on X(formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
"Diego Pavia.... Bro has an incredible story! He was also supposed to come to Jackson State. Good game, You deserve it. Congratulations my brother!"
After being overlooked in high school, Pavia eventually transferred to Vanderbilt in June after winning the Conference USA Player of the Year at New Mexico State.
The buzz is growing around the Commodores QB. He even got a shoutout from Johnny Manziel. [01:00]
Diego Pavia is 'staying grounded' after the big win against Alabama
Saturday was special for Diego Pavia, who instantly became the talk of college football after putting up stellar numbers against Alabama. Pavia completed 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.
This historic win over the Crimson Tide comes after four decades for the Commodores.
“Games like this change your life, you know what I mean?" Pavia said. "It's all about hype nowadays, and I don't like it like that, but it's a reality of NIL and all that stuff. "But just staying grounded, stay where my feet are and every single day, tomorrow we got to work on Kentucky."
Vanderbilt is 3-2, and the Commodores will look to keep the momentum going and clean up mistakes.
