Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders has given an update on the condition of Shilo Sanders. Shilo was injured during the Buffaloes' loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Week 2 with a fractured forearm. For this, he underwent surgery.
However, in the build-up to the Buffaloes' Week 7 meeting with the No. 18-ranked Kansas State Wildcats, ESPN reported some positive news that Deion Sanders has given.
"Shilo's ready. He's practising. He's full go. (He) has a rubber cast on. He's doing his thing. I can't wait to see him back there," said Deion Sanders.
The game that Shilo Sanders was injured in has been the low point of the Buffaloes' season so far. It has been their only defeat and they were completely outplayed by the Cornhuskers.
After this game (and without Shilo), the Buffaloes went on a three-game winning streak, recording victories against Colorado State, Baylor and UCF.
During his absence, Shilo Sanders was replaced by Carter Stoutmire. He was able to have some success as the starting safety, recording 13 tackles and breaking up two passes.
However, there is no doubt that now Shilo is healthy to play and he, indeed, will be playing. This was confirmed by Deion Sanders during the press conference on Tuesday, where he not only said that Shilo was returning but praised the young safety who stepped in to fill the gap.
"Carter has done a wonderful job, got a lot of experience, and he's in on some packages as well. But Shilo is full go. We should have the entire starting defense this week."
Whatever happens during the rest of the season, Carter Stoutmire has proven himself to Coach Prime that he is a player for the future. He is someone who can fill the gap left by Shilo Sanders in the long term when the former leaves the Buffaloes program.
Deion Sanders is not surprised about the Buffaloes' good start
Deion Sanders has also commented on the successful start to the season that the Colorado Buffaloes have had to the season. They come into their Week 7 meeting with the Kansas State Wildcats with a 4-1 record, matching the same number of wins that Colorado recorded all last season.
During the press conference, Deion Sanders was asked if he was surprised about the successful start. He replied:
"How can you be surprised with the expectation you have for yourself? The only way you can be surprised is if you didn't expect it. We expect the results when we put in the work. I just don't want it going to their heads."
To Sanders, success is expected. He is making the team put in the work in the games and in training, and this work is paying off.
