Colorado coach Deion Sanders watched on as his son quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw a spectacular Hail Mary touchdown pass during his team's 38-31 Week 4 win against the Baylor Bears to move the Buffaloes to 3-1 on Saturday. Up next is a clash against the UCF Knights in Orlando, Florida, which will represent a homecoming of sorts for Coach Prime.

During his weekly news conference, the charismatic Colorado coach was asked what made high school players from Florida so special.

“That hunger, that thirst, that will, that want, that me-against-the world, that we don’t have the best of things, but we gonna make the most of things the way our parents came up to desolate and (turbulent) times that we’ve come through, the naysayers, the haters,” Sanders said. “Our Florida boys are excited, but they know we’re on the job."

Deion Sanders hails from Fort Myers, Florida, and was a celebrated star for the Florida State Seminoles, where he made his name before going to the NFL and the MLB. Eighteen of the prospects on the Colorado roster hail from Florida, with Coach Prime intent on recruiting players from the state heavily.

According to statistics provided by MaxPreps, Florida is only second to Texas in the number of players currently in the NFL (173-184). The state came fifth on a list of per-capita basis vis-a-vis states with one NFL player for every 121,001 people behind the likes of Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

Deion Sanders and Colorado depart for Florida early

Deion Sanders said that the Colorado Buffaloes were departing for Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday rather than Thursday to make sure that they were not caught up in the path of Hurricane Helene.

“We’re trying to get ahead of the curve and be smart with it,” Sanders said. “Our guys like consistency, so being settled and having a consistent plan in place works in our favor."

Deion Sanders will have his work cut out for him as the UCF Knights (3-0) under former Auburn coach Gus Malzahn are 15.5-point favorites for the clash against the Buffs according to BetMGM.

The Knights have formulated a monstrous rushing offense that averages 375.7 yards per game and ranks No. 1 in the country while the Buffs have the fifth-worst rushing offense in the nation averaging 68.8 yards per game.

Any sort of win would rely on CU's superstars, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way talent Travis Hunter, playing the games of their lives to have a shot.
