Following a disappointing 2023 college football season, Deion Sanders turned the tide around at Colorado in 2024. Inheriting arguably the worst team in the Football Bowl Subdivision when he took over, he led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 finish in 2024; the program's best in recent years.
Sanders is now probably the most popular man in Boulder. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has seen his influence grow far and wide within the university community and the city as he continues to put the program at center stage.
Colorado baseball announced on its social media pages on Sunday that it's open to filling a couple of roles in the program, including the head coach.
This resulted in several Buffaloes fans suggesting Sanders for the role. Here's a look at some of the reactions online:
Other reactions from fans:
"I'd probably watch college ball if Coach Prime ever did this lol," a fan wrote.
"Go get coach prime, he’ll show up for practice even if the football team has a game," another fan wrote.
"I would suspend my hatred for Colorado and cheer hard for your baseball team if Prime coached it," a fan commented.
"I know a former MLB player who’s done coaching and isn’t hard to find….," another fan commented.
Can Deion Sanders become the Colorado baseball coach?
Deion Sanders played baseball at the college level for Florida State and went on to play professionally in the MLB. He played football and baseball at the same time during his playing career.
Despite his baseball background, Sanders is unlikely to pursue the Buffaloes' baseball coaching job. This is bound to be a distraction for him as he prepares for the 2025 college football season, where he hopes to do something bigger with the program.
Furthermore, Sanders has never shown interest in coaching baseball despite playing in the MLB for nine years for four different teams. It looks like an unlikely endeavor for him. While he looks to remain in Boulder, coaching baseball isn't the reason why he's there.
