Penn State quarterback Drew Allar announced that he intends to return to the Nittany Lions for his senior year in 2025. He announced on December 16th and released a statement.
"This season has been the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life playing football and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished as a team," he said. "I know there’s still more work to do which is why I look forward to making more memories with my teammates this year and beyond. But right now we are solely on the opportunity we have as a team in front of us. WE ARE."
However, despite his clear decision to continue his college career after this season, he has attracted interest from NFL GMs. Draft analyst Dane Brugler reported on Tuesday that several GMs believe Allar could enter the NFL draft if Penn State has a good playoff run. He wrote on X:
"I know Drew Allar "intends" to return to Penn St. in 2025. But... There are several NFL GMs who believe Allar could enter the 2025 NFL Draft with a strong playoff run. Teams are still heavily scouting him for the 2025 class."
Drew Allar helped Penn State become the first team to reach the semifinals of the college football playoff
If some NFL GMs believe all it would take for Drew Allar to declare for the 2025 NFL draft is a strong playoff run, he is off to a good start. While Allar is not the sole driving force for the Nittany Lions, he has had solid performances in the first two games.
In the first round, Drew Allar and the Nittany Lions defeated the SMU Mustangs 38-10. Allar did not need to do much that game, completing 13 of 22 passes for 127 yards. Against Boise State in the second round, Allar improved, completing 13 of 25 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns.
The Penn State Nittany Lions will play in the Orange Bowl on January 9th, at 7:30 p.m. ET. They'll face the winner of the Sugar Bowl, which pits the Georgia Bulldogs against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The game will take place on New Year's Day at 8:45 p.m. ET. Allar and the Nittany Lions need only two more wins to secure the National Championship.
