Despite rumors that Deion Sanders would leave the Colorado Buffaloes for the NFL after the ongoing college football season, the coach has repeatedly said that he is happy with the Buffaloes and does not want to leave. However, with his son and quarterback Shedeur Sanders set to enter the 2025 NFL draft, many pundits think Deion might follow him.
Analyst Joel Klatt appeared on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on Wednesday to discuss Coach Prime's future.
"I think it would be really hard for him to turn down the New York Giants or the Dallas Cowboys," Klatt said. "Those brands. Now, here's what I will say though. And I've made this argument before, and I think it remains truer today than ever, which is, as much as Colorado was desperate for Deion Sanders. Deion Sanders needs a place like Colorado.
"Colorado turned over the keys. Deion could be totally himself and turned Colorado into Prime. He had the keys to the castle. Traditions were out the window. You can do whatever you want. He had clauses contractually where he could keep his merchandise and where the sunglasses and do everything that makes Deion, Deion," Klatt continued.
"Go to the NFL and see if you get all those. He would be so restricted in the NFL that he couldn't even be himself. Kyle Shanahan gets reprimanded for wearing the wrong flat bill hat. I think Deion Sanders is a great fit at Colorado. Deion works at Colorado not only because of Deion, but because of Colorado."
Rumors running wild predicting Deion Sanders to follow Shedeur Sanders in the NFL
One of the reasons that could entice Coach Prime to join the NFL is the opportunity to coach the team that drafts his kid. The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants are two prominent organizations who have expressed interest in Shedeur as a potential draft pick, and both are expected to have a pick high enough to land him.
Shedeur is projected to be one of the top quarterbacks drafted in the 2025 NFL draft. Many of the teams expected to draft high, including the Giants and Cowboys, have been rumored to be interested in making coaching changes. So, if Shedeur is drafted to one of those teams, it could be hard for Deion to say no to an offer.
