Urban Meyer doesn't believe the Miami Hurricanes cut it as contenders for the national title. The Canes are eighth in the College Football Playoff rankings, and they also have arguably the best quarterback in the nation in Heisman hopeful Cam Ward.
But the former Ohio State and Florida coach isn't convinced by the performances of the U.

"Miami, I'm just not sold, Mark," Meyer said last week on the "The Triple Option" podcast alongside former New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram and analyst Rob Stone. "I'm sold on their quarterback. You take that quarterback out of there, and they're .500."
The Hurricanes have won some games by the skin of their teeth, such as against California (39-38) and Virginia Tech (38-34). In their most recent game, they were defeated 28-23 by Georgia Tech, raising some eyebrows.
In regards to Cameron Ward, there's no denying he's a big part of the Hurricanes' success. He has thrown for 3,494 yards, with 32 touchdowns and six interceptions. His QBR, which stands at 89.3, is the best in the nation.
Urban Meyer points out the best player in the nation: It's not Miami's Cameron Ward
While Urban Meyer gave a vote of confidence to Miami's quarterback, he doesn't believe he's the best player in the nation. According to Meyer, that distinction goes to Colorado's two-way star, Travis Hunter.
"He's the best player in the game right now. I would draft him with the first pick," Meyer said. "He's a dog. He studies the game. ... I just got so much respect for that cat."
Hunter leads his team in receiving yards, with 911 on 74 receptions, and has nine touchdowns. He ranks No. 14 among all receivers in the nation yardage-wise and eighth in touchdown catches.
