Did Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord go to the same high school?

Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord enjoyed superb chemistry with one another in the 2023 college football season. The two formed one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the nation at Ohio State. However, their football journey began way before they landed in Columbus.

Did Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord go to the same high school?

Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord attended high school at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia. The catholic academy has over the years become a football powerhouse in Pennsylvania, commanding a high reputation.

Harrison and McCord did not become teammates at St. Joseph's till their sophomore year in high school. While McCord started as a freshman in the school, Harrison did not. The wide receiver had his freshman career at La Salle College in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania.

During their first year at high school, McCord and Harrison Jr. strengthened their relationship on the gridiron. The two played a crucial role in St. Joseph’s success that season, securing the school's second state championship in Class 6A.

McCord was the first to commit to Ohio State, giving the Buckeyes his word in April 2019. Harrison subsequently committed to Ohio State in October 2019. The QB explained how he felt following Harrison’s decision to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"I was so excited I can't even explain it," McCord said. "Just knowing we have a bunch of more years together after high school. Not too many kids get to say that about their receiver.”
"He knew I wanted him in Columbus really bad. Even before I committed, we talked about going to the same school. I wanted him to go where it was best for him, but I'm extremely excited it's the same school I'm going to."

Despite not having the opportunity to start many games together in their first two seasons, McCord and Harrison both started for the Buckeyes in 2023. While that ended up being a somewhat disappointing season for the Buckeyes, the connection between the two was evident.

Going separate ways in 2024

Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord will finally be heading separate ways ahead of the 2024 college football season. This marks the first time they won't be together since their sophomore year at high school.

Harrison is heading to the NFL after forgoing his senior year of eligibility in college for the professional stage. McCord, on the other hand, will remain in college football for at least one more season. The QB has, however, transferred to Syracuse.
