Dillon Gabriel will be the Oregon Ducks' starting quarterback after he transferred from Oklahoma. Gabriel is replacing Bo Nix, who was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.
Dillon Gabriel's NFL Draft projection
Dillon Gabriel is projected to be a Day 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. A knock on Gabriel will be his age as he's set to turn 24 in December, which is somewhat older for an NFL prospect.
ProFootballNetwork has Gabriel as a late Day 3 NFL Draft pick. But the outlet does expect Gabriel to be an immediate backup in the NFL due to his age and experience in college football.
TheDraftNetwork, meanwhile, also pegs Gabriel as a Day 3 pick, meaning he will be selected sometime in Rounds 4 to 7.
Dillon Gabriel's college career
Dillon Gabriel was a three-star recruit and committed to UCF. He spent three years at UCF before transferring to Oklahoma for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
After two years with the Sooners, Gabriel was one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal and committed to Oregon.
The Ducks are one of the top teams in college football and Gabriel is the favorite to win the Heisman at +750, according to DraftKings.
Gabriel also said that being on a team that can win a national championship was the thinking that played a key role in his decision to transfer.
“I’ve always been close to that next step. I want to win and play in those big atmospheres,” Gabriel said to The Athletic. “I don’t like using this reference, but there’s always a bigger rush and a higher high you want to feel, and you get that in the biggest games.
"It’s something I’m chasing. Being here with all these guys, it’s been fun and refreshing. Who else gets to see a third spot and still learn in my sixth year of college? It’s not normal, and it’s different.”
Last season at Oklahoma, Gabriel went 266-for-384 for 3,660 yards for 30 touchdowns and six interceptions.
