The South Carolina Gamecocks are off to a 3-1 start, with their lone loss being to LSU in a game South Carolina should have won.

The Gamecocks are coming off a blowout 50-7 win at home against Akron in Week 4. Following the win, South Carolina gets an open week to reset and get some players healthy for another stretch of games.

South Carolina doesn't play today as the Gamecocks have their first open week of the 2024 season.

The Gamecocks are lucky to have an off, as South Carolina does have some key personnel sidelined, as quarterback LaNorris Sellers, leading receiver Jared Brown, and starting running back Rocket Sanders are all dealing with injuries. But coach Shane Beamer believes the open week will allow them to be ready for Ole Miss.

"I think everybody should be fine for Ole Miss," Beamer said, via Rivals. "If we were playing this week it would be questionable for a handful of those guys...

"Rocket would be the one that would be the most questionable if you will in regards to being able to play a game this week. But everyone else would be fine for a game on Saturday. Obviously a bye week is coming at a really, really good time where we now have two weeks to get ready for the next one. Anticipate everybody being ready to go for Ole Miss."

Beamer said South Carolina will practice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before taking the weekend off to recruit.

Can South Carolina make it to the College Football Playoff this season?

The South Carolina Gamecocks are unlikely to make the College Football Playoff this season.

South Carolina is not ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll but did receive votes after Week 4. The Gamecocks are also given odds of +10000 of making the postseason, which implies a one percent chance of making the playoff.

South Carolina has hard games against the likes of Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama, Missouri and Clemson, which will hinder their chances of making the playoff. The Gamecocks likely can only lose one of those games to have a shot at the playoff.
