The South Carolina Gamecocks are coming off a 35-9 rout against the Oklahoma Sooners on the road. The Gamecocks will now have their second and final open week of the season.

South Carolina will use the off to heal up any injuries and prepare for the final couple of games as the Gamecocks are on track to be bowl-eligible.

South Carolina returns to action at home on Nov. 2 against the Texas A&M Aggies. This is the Gamecocks' second open week of the 2024 college football season, as they are off to a 4-3 start.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have practically no chance of making the College Football Playoff.

South Carolina is 4-3, and having three losses practically eliminated any hope of a playoff berth for the team. However, the focus is on playing better after this open week compared to what it did earlier in the year.

“We obviously played like hot garbage against coming off the last off week,” coach Shane Beamer said, via On3. “Coaches, players, we did not perform well after an off week when we got ready to play Ole Miss.

“I think if anything, it’s looking at where you are as a team health-wise. We’re seven games in, and we’re getting ready to play five straight games in the month of November. And for a lot of the freshmen on our team, if they didn’t have a high school team that went deep in the playoffs, I mean, their season was over by the time they got to November, for a lot of them.

“So it’s a long season, so you need to be cognizant of that, making sure you take care of their bodies.”

South Carolina will look to pick up at least two wins in the final five games to be bowl-eligible.
