The Vanderbilt Commodores are 2-2 this season and are coming off a 30-27 OT loss on the road against Missouri.
Vanderbilt has been a bit of a surprise this season, as the Commodores nearly knocked off Missouri and beat Virginia Tech in their season opener. Vanderbilt has its first bye week of the season to reset and get some players healthy for another stretch of games.
Does Vanderbilt play today?
The Vanderbilt Commodores do not play today as they are on their first bye week of the season.
Vanderbilt played Missouri well and nearly handed the Tigers an upset loss. The Commodores are using their bye week as an extra week to prepare for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
“People are pissed off that we lost, like they should be,” Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia said, via Nashville Post. “But we’re motivated to go play our next opponent. We got a bye week coming up, and then we got to prepare for Alabama. They’re a good football team, too.
“We’re an inch away from getting over the hump. Last week, we lost by single digits, this week we lost by single digits, and we just got to get over the hump.”
Vanderbilt will continue to practice during its bye week.
Can Vanderbilt make it to the College Football Playoff this season?
The Vanderbilt Commodores have a slim to no shot at making the college football playoff this season.
Vanderbilt is 2-2 and with how deep the SEC is, its chances of making the SEC title game is unlikely. Even if Vanderbilt wins out, whether or not its resume with two losses is good enough to get into the playoff is a major question.
DraftKings has Vanderbilt at odds of +25000 off making the college football playoff which implies a 0.4% chance.
